Yuen Po Street Bird Garden
There is a street in Hong Kong on the mainland that is home to bird sellers, bird collectors and all they passion over. Yuen Po Street Bird Garden is located near Prince Edward MTR station and on the walk over you pass through the flower market.
Every now and then Juliette and I embark on epic, world changing journeys. The kind of journeys that alter the the space time continuum. Journeys that hobbits write songs about. Journeys that... well you get the idea. This was not one of those journeys.
This day we boarded the MTR on a hot and humid Hong Kong day and made our way to Prince Edward station. A short walk would take us through the flower market and to our final destination, Yuen Po Street Bird Garden.
The flower market is less of a market and more simply a street where four out of every five shops are stores that sell flowers. The most beautiful displays all seemed to have signs saying no pictures. About ten minutes walking and you arrive at Yuen Po street where one of the three entrances to garden are found. Check out some of our pictures below.
The "bird garden" was built at Yuen Po in the the 90s. I know what you're thinking something as serene as a bird garden seems that it should be older and the idea of it is. The bird garden was moved to Yuen Po because development projects had the old location demolished and in an effort to give back to the birding community Yuen Po street was given to those who buy and sell birds and bird stuff.
Take a walk with Juliette and I through the bird garden at Yuen Po.
