Musings - A Time Remembered

Musings - A Time Remembered

So we landed in Hong on my birthday, September 1st 2017.  I would start my 44th year on this planet in a country I had only ever visited once before 18 years ago.  And guess what, its exactly how I remember it; that is to say that I remember that it was extremely hot and humid and not much else.  After all it was 18 years ago and I'm 43 now (you know the mind is the first thing to go).

When I say its hot and humid imagine a hot yoga class where they turn the humidity up to about 95% and the temperature to 30 degrees Celsius.  Now imagine that the room comfortably holds 20 people but you have 40 or 50 crammed in there all jockeying for position.  And that is what I remember most and that hasn't changed.

I stepped out of the airport at about 7pm after passing through immigration and customs into the still and I mean there wasn't so much as a breeze, nobody had even broken wind, night air and almost choked on the thick heavy coastal atmosphere. I flew in from Calgary, Alberta, Canada with my family, a city about 3000 or more feet above sea level, and a city that has an extremely dry and arid atmosphere to Hong Kong which is an island at sea level.  Its funny because it didn't hit so hard 18 years ago, but thats probably because Jenn and I had been tooling around SEA for the better part of that year before arriving to Hong Kong.  This time it was 0% humidity and 18 hours later 95% humidity.  The last time I was shocked like this was when I went to work for the cruise lines and landed n Miami to catch up with the MS Ecstasy.

So thats what I remember most about my visit here in 2000, that and I got to play with a dolphin named Oscar.
